What image file types can I upload?

Only JPG, JPEG, PNG and GIF images can be uploaded because these formats are supported by all browsers, render high quality by moderate file size and are most commonly used on the internet for photo's. If you try to upload other file types, the Control Panel will not process them.

What image file sizes can I upload?

You can upload image files of any size you like. When a visitor clicks on the zoom button, the large scale image file will be displayed. In order to prevent too large files causing a delay in downloading, the system narrows all uploaded files to a maximum width and height of 960 pix. This also safes storage space and may help to avoid upgrading your hosting account.

Note that some hosting providers impose an upload limit of say 1 or 2 Mb per file. There is no way that we work around this.

Should I prepare my image files before upload?

You don't really have to prepare your files. Remember though that all files wider or higher than 960 pix will be downscaled to a width or height of 960 pix. This downscaling may cause some loss of quality. If you upload images that already have a max width or height of 960px or less, no downscaling will take place. These images will be displayed in exactly the same quality you provided.

In case you have bought the 3:4 template your uploaded images will be downscaled to a width of 960 pix as well. Thumbs and preview images of the 3:4 template though, will be stretched to fit the 3:4 proportion exactly. This may cause deformation of your image in thumb and preview sizes.

Large scale images (on zoom), will always be displayed in their original proportions.

How can I protect my images from unauthorized use?

Unfortunately there are no scripts that can really prevent people to save images from a website. If it is really important to you that no one uses your images unauthorised, you can try to make it less attractive to do so: Scale your images down to a smaller size before you upload and/or ad visible watermarks to your images.

Could you make a slightly different color scheme for me?

Any suggestions from your side are welcomed. Please send us a color scheme to evaluate. If we like like it, we will ad it to the set of schemes we already have and make it available for all our customers. If not so, we have to call it 'custom webdesign' and charge you accordingly.

How many image galleries can I have?

You can add either image galleries or text pages to the menu. The choice is yours. If you use less text pages then you can have more galleries instead. The total number of text pages and galleries is limited by the space that is available for the main menu. The max number of lines that fit in there is about 10 to 15, depending also on the space occupied by the title and the subtitle (likely to be your name and art form). Do title and subtitle fit in one line? Or more? Now you can calculate. If you are planning for more galleries, please contact us!
Remember that the storage space given to you by your hosting provider could also impose a limit on the number of galleries you can have.

What are hosting and domain name registration?

Domain registration and hosting are conditional to any website on the web. The domain name makes your site unique and searchable. This is our domain name: cmswebsiteforartists.com. Yours could be ruth-artist.com or anything else as you prefer.
Hosting provides storage of your website on a large server computer connected to the internet, so anyone can download and see your pages.

What if I already have a domain name?

No problem. Send us the FTP data that your hosting provider has provided you with. Make sure that your hosting account supports PHP 5 and GD library (most of them do). No data base needed. Ask your hosting provider.

What are FTP data?

FTP means File Transfer Protocol. FTP makes it possible for us to upload your website's files to your hosting server. Your hosting provider has provided you with these data, by e-mail or regular post. Here's an example:

FTP server name:   ftp.yourdomain.com
Folder:   /httpdocs/
Login:   yourdomain
Password:   Hd37Zjs38

Sometimes no folder is mentioned and folder can be left blanc.

At some moment you have to send us these data so we can upload your website and it's control panel. Use the Submit FTP data form on our contact page.

To what standards my hosting account has to meet?

The website and the Control Panel take up only a small amount of storage space. More important, make sure you have enough storage space for the number of images you want to upload. Presume a large high-resolution image would take 0.5 Mb, 1 Mb or more and start calculating from there.

Technical demands for your account are: PHP 5 support and GD library. These are supported in most cases, but you want to make sure. You do not need a data base. Ask your hosting provider.

How is my artist website optimised for search engines?

•  Title, subtitle, text page headers and gallery names of your site are placed in header tags <h1>, <h2> and <h3>.
•  Title and subtitle are automatically placed in the <title> and <description> meta tags.
•  Title and subtitle are automatically included as keywords in the <keywords> meta tag.
•  Keywords (which you can edit in the Control Panel) are included in the <keywords> meta tag.
•  A no script section guides search engine spiders through the entire site map of your website.

How can I use the Control Panel to optimise even more?

•  Choose or try keywords that people really use.
•  Choose title, subtitle, text page headers en gallery names that contain some keywords.
•  Apply keywords in your text pages.
Do NOT use keywords twice when adding them in your Control Panel.
•  Do NOT add title and subtitle to your editable keywords in your CP, because they are already automatically added to your keywords by our scripts.
•  Do NOT use keywords that are irrelevant to your work and your situation.
•  Note that keyword related changes take effect only after your site has been reindexed again by search engines. This can take days or weeks.
